As a group, James, Gemma and I have decided that we will work on a music promotional video. DVD cover and poster. We decide that we will do the genre of Indie rock as it was our favouritetype of music. We have decided to contact the band, "The Hype" a local band from Portsmouth. We Have begun researching and Pre-production back in October 2009, this included looking at at what we wanted to achieve and create by the end of this experience.
We started by doing a little bit of research into the band, mainly by speaking to them and looking at there myspace : http://www.myspace.com/8elievethehype. finding out basic facts such as :who they are ( Andy Muscat- lead vocals /rhythm guitar, Nathan Newman- Bass guitar / backing vocals and Pete Brazier - drums / percussion and backing vocals. We also found out that the band meet through Fareham college, as they are all on a music course there, they have been together about a year and have established over 7 songs. They formed in February 2009, and after headlining in The Wedgwood rooms, The Cellars and the Rifle club, they have developed a large following.
We then researched our three products we aim to complete, in real media. Looking into music promotion videos, posters and DVD covers.
The Promotional DVDs we looked at were, The Killers promo,(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7tsVI2jNHk) , The Kings of Leon promo, (http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&VideoID=9421958) and Arctic monkeys, (http://www.arcticmonkeys.com/videos.php?s=2A2XBoxtcUA#player). Which we discussed in detail.
Then i looked at colours and fonts and the connotations of these colours and fonts. The font on the poster is very important as it needs to be regognisable and be able to show the bands genre, persona and be attractive, with this in mind i looked at appropriate fonts. Including bank gothic, curlz mt, hobo std handwriting - dakota and papyrus.And decided that the simplist way will be to wait and definiately desiced when the photos are taken.
We also researched into posters, dvd covers and websites as we had not decided what two we wished too do. We looked into bands such as maccabees and snow patrol , analysing posters, dvd covers and websites to get ideas for our own so that we could use the forms and convections of these real media product to create our own, making ours fit into a modern society and modern genre of music.
This was our pre-production. by doing this we were able to look at other media's to improve ours, give us ideas and let us see what we feel will be good and bad. Also by doing pre-production in detail we were able to plan our media.
